Off Road Trail Spotlight: Joint Effort

This being the holidays, we at Dixie 4 Wheel Drive are expecting lots of avid off-roaders to make the trip to the southwest to enjoy some of the amazing off-roading trails we have. We’ve seen an upsurge in the number of people interested in exploring the different trails in this corner of the country and we love it!

Of course, not everyone makes the trip to go on a scenic trail, taking in the sights. Some people want a real challenge. They want to feel the adrenaline rush that comes with tackling trails that most others wouldn’t dream of and bragging about it.

The good thing is that Sand Hollow State Park is quite expansive, with trails of different ratings, suitable for all driving skills and levels, from novice off-roaders to the experts.

Today we’d like to shed light on one of the toughest, most challenging trails at Sand Hollow- Joint Effort.

Trail Off Roading Overview

With a 9 rating, Joint Effort will take you on a short and brutal 3-mile ride through some of the most demanding terrain possible. You’ll have to guide your rig through steep slickrock climbs and drop-offs with lots of off-camber sections along the way. There are even some slot canyons thrown in to make things more interesting.

In addition to high ground clearance (tires should be at least 37”) and heavy-duty axles, you’ll also need recovery gear to make it through this trail as rollovers are quite common. Ensure that you have tow hooks and a winch plus both front and rear differential lockers.

The Trails Scenery and Surface

Like other trails in Sand Hollow, Joint Effort offers some magnificent scenery if you take time to look up from the obstacles. You can catch fantastic views of the Sand Hollow Reservoir with Zion National Park forming a beautiful backdrop in the distance. You can also glimpse the Pine Valley Mountains.

The trail surface is mostly made up of sandy bottoms and slickrock walls.

Off Roading Trail Obstacles

The trail rating is well deserved as Joint Effort serves up consecutive obstacles, each one more difficult than the last. Even the short distance between obstacles has challenges to keep hardcore off-roaders entertained throughout.

As you go through the trail, you’ll have to navigate steep inclines and declines. Excellent driving skills are required on this trail and even then some rollovers and vehicle body or mechanical damage are to be expected.

While this is a fun, challenging trail, it’s only recommended for experienced off-roaders.

If you want to experience this and many other trails of varying levels, kindly sign up for one of our trail riding events. We’re sure you’ll end up having loads of fun pitting your ride against the sand and rocks on the different trails here in southern Utah.
