Off Road Trail Spotlight: Sand Hollow Connector Trails – St George, Utah (Sand Mountain) Trails

Whether you’re looking to hone your off-roading skills or looking for alternative trails to the popular ones in Moab, Sand Hollow State Park delivers. This 20,000-acre park is a haven for those looking for rock-crawling adventure. With about 15,000 acres of dunes and numerous trails to explore, it’s no wonder Sand Mountain is one of our favorite places to go trail riding.

If you get tired of the trails, you can round up your family and head to Sand Hollow Reservoir for some watersports including jet skiing, kayaking, fishing, and boating. Other recreational activities at the park include golfing and hiking.

Sand Hollow Connector Trails

If you’re an avid off-roader, you have to give Sand Hollow trails a try. These are a huge hit with both novice and experienced off-roaders as there are trails to suit everyone. If you’re just looking for light off-roading with minimal obstacles, you can check out trails such as the East and West Rim, both rated 3.

If you feel up to something more challenging, trails such as Backwards and Double Sammy are there to test you. If you’re looking for something even gnarlier, then Chain reaction and Nasty Half will deliver the adrenalin as you rock crawl your way through all kinds of obstacles, pushing your rig to the limit.

Getting from one trail to another shouldn’t be a problem as there are directions to some of the more popular ones. There are also connector trails leading from one trail to another. Often some of these connector trails also have some light obstacles so you can get some rock crawling done as you progress through the different trails.

The scenery at Sand Hollow won’t disappoint if you’re looking for some cool photos. The red sandstone landscape coupled with the scenic rock formations are sure to provide excellent backdrops for photos and videos. There are also multiple great views of the red dunes from most of the trails – that is if you can take your eyes off the trail long enough to appreciate them.

If you’re in the mood to do more than stare at the dunes, you have the option of doing some dune shredding. Nothing beats driving through the red dunes and it’s a good chance for you to practice your sand driving skills.
