Off Road Trail Spotlight: Nephi Twist – St. George, Utah Trails

While Moab has some of the most popular off-roading trails with extreme obstacles, St. George has the most scenic ones. There are more than 200 off-roading trails around St. George and you don’t even have to go to Sand Hollow to find them. Some of these lead to Nevada so you get the bonus of exploring a new state too.

The best way to explore the fascinating trails in this area is to make the trail runs with a group of friends. That not only guarantees you’ll have a fun time but also ensures that you have others on hand to help you should something go wrong. if you don’t have a group of friends, you can always join us on one of our trail rides. We always make sure to organize trail runs to some interesting corners of this state.

Nephi Twist 4X4 Trail

This is one of the newer trails added to the area and it’s just as exciting. It is about 15 miles long, rated 4 and it’s recommended for 4WDs with tires 35” and above, adequate ground clearance, and with both front and rear lockers. A winch isn’t necessary but is good to have.

The trail starts at La Verkin, about 21 miles from St. George, and ends at the Toquerville Falls. It starts as a slightly bumpy dirt road along the base of the cliffs and transitions into a drive along a rocky wet, river bed as you cross the La Verkin Creek. The trail surface is mostly over the rocky river bed with several rocky climbs to navigate so you need to ensure you have the right tires for the job.

This is a fun trail driving in and out of washes and up the creek. It will test your driving skills over shallow water though none of the washes are very deep. Still, be on the lookout especially over the rocky climbs. While the trail is great all year round, it becomes trickier when it rains and is best avoided if there’s a heavy downpour.

Finding a hidden gem like this may be difficult as it’s in a remote area. To help you get to the right spot, download a trail map of the area from our online store. You can then upload it to any of your navigation devices so you won’t end up getting lost.
