Off-Road Trail Spotlight: Fire Point - Kanab – North Rim Trails

Moab, Utah is home to some of the most popular off-roading trails in the country. However, this comes with crowds, and sometimes it can take ages to get to some of the more famous obstacles. Not everyone is a fan of crowds and waiting for off-roading spots to open. Sometimes you just want a nice scenic drive with a few mildly challenging obstacles and a great destination at the end of it.

If that’s what you’re looking for, then North Rim trails deliver these and so much more. The North Rim of the Grand Canyon offers enthralling views of the famous canyon. Since it sits at a higher elevation, it has more spectacular views of the canyon. Even better, since this side of the canyon isn’t as famous as the South Rim, there are fewer visitors, making it the ideal destination for those who don’t want the noise and hassle that comes with crowds.

When it comes to magnificent views from the North Rim, few overlooks can hold up to Fire Point.

Trail Overview

The ride to Fire Point is an awesome experience. The trail itself is smooth with the occasional rocky outcrop to navigate. It can get narrow in places, calling for careful navigation and a slower pace to make it through. A stock SUV should have no problem handling this trail in good weather. Things can get more difficult when it rains.

Getting to Fire Point means navigating through aspens and ponderosa pines along beautiful forested trails. The route from Kanab to Fire Point consists of a myriad of crisscrossing forest roads and you could easily lose your way. To avoid this, join one of Dixie 4 Wheel’s trail rides to make the trip in a group. Alternatively, you could download the trail map from our online store to ensure that you always know where you are.

At the end of the drive, you’ll be rewarded with arguably some of the most magnificent views of the Grand Canyon from the North Rim at Fire Point. This makes an excellent place to stop for lunch or to just take a break.

With Kanab being the gateway to the North Rim, you could take a short detour to explore this gem of a town. If you have time before or after heading to Fire Point, you could use it to practice driving on the sand at the beautiful Coral Pink Sand Dunes area.
