Off Road Trail Spotlight: Cliffs of Insanity - St. George, Utah Trails

Southern Utah is home to some of the most fascinating off-roading trails in the country. While the most popular trails are found in Moab, others can be found in the neighboring St. George. One advantage the latter has is that they are less crowded than the ones in Moab so if you time your visit right, you won’t have to deal with crowds. Additionally, the scenery out there is beautiful and in some places, you’ll be hard-pressed to keep your eyes on the trails as the landscape draws your attention.

Here at Dixie 4 Wheel Drive, we love going out to explore both old and new trails. It’s one of the perks of living in this part of the country. We also love educating people on the best off-roading techniques and trails in the area. If you’d like to join us and other off-roading enthusiasts in exploring the trails, you’re welcome to tag along.

One of the craziest trails we’ve encountered outside Moab is known as the Cliffs of Insanity.

Cliffs of Insanity Trail Overview

The good thing about Southern Utah is that there are different trails to suit all off-roading levels. If you’re in the mood for an adrenaline-filled adventure, then check out Cliffs of Insanity. Found near Warner Valley, this trail is only a few miles from St. George. Getting to the top of the cliffs involves a steep, treacherous climb but it’s worth it for the magnificent view from the top. The trail consists of slickrock with some sandy parts and with plenty of rocks and boulders to keep things interesting. The trail is also popular with bikers so watch out for them and use the trail responsibly.

The view from the top of the cliffs is not to be missed. You’ll have spectacular vistas of the Warner Valley as well as incredible desert views all around. To successfully make the trip, it’s recommended to head out in a 4WD rig with sufficient ground clearance. It’s also a good idea to have large tires, a winch, and at least one set of differential lockers.
