Moab Off Road Trail Spotlight: Deadman Point

Moab is world-famous for its popular off-roading trails. Having lived here for decades and having checked out pretty much all of the trails in Moab, we can confirm that they live up to the hype.

However, some people have this wrong idea that all the trails in Moab will have you pitting your rig against formidable obstacles, hanging from precarious ledges one step away from tipping over. This is simply not true.

Moab is also home to some pretty straightforward trails that allow you to relax and take in the sights. To give visitors to Moab a balanced view of the trails, we organize regular trail running events and encourage people to sign up.

One of the more scenic trails in Moab is Deadman Point.

Deadman Point Trail Overview

Deadman Point is ideal for those looking for a relaxed, scenic drive. This 90-mile trail is rated 3 guaranteeing a fun easy ride. It’s perfect for novices who want to see more of this part of the country or even off-roading veterans looking for an uncomplicated ride after taking on tougher trails.

The route takes you to the south of Spring Canyon Bottom Road. This area is bordered by Green River to the west and Hellroaring Canyon to the south. The terrain is a little rugged in places but a stock vehicle will have no problems navigating the trail.

Scenery Of Deadman Point Trail

When it comes to scenery, Deadman Point doesn’t disappoint. The trail goes past three overlooks of the Green River, with spectacular vistas all around. You’ll also catch glimpses of the fascinating rock formation known as Cleopatra’s Chair found in the Maze District of Canyonlands National Park. Remember to take breaks along the way to snap photos of the incredible scenery.

The road surface won’t present a problem as it mainly consists of some dirt and loose rock sections. There’s also some slickrock near some of the viewpoints.

Deadman Point Trail Details

While this trail is more about the spectacular scenery and views, you’ll still have to pay attention to the road. There are one or two tricky ledges along the way where you’ll have to choose a line carefully or risk scraping your rear bumper or skid plate. You’ll also encounter a twisting descent that will demand your attention to navigate. Other than that, this is one of those easy trails designed for a relaxing afternoon out.

Whether you’re looking for an adrenaline-charged off-roading adventure or a more leisurely scenic drive, Moab is sure to deliver.
