Camping in Moab is restricted to campgrounds or designated sites in some of the very popular areas. Some of the best campgrounds that allow RV and large vehicles are listed below:

  • Along Highway 128 (River Road) – campgrounds include Goose Island, Big Bend, Upper Onion Creek & Hittle Bottom.

  • Along Highway 279 (Potash Road) – check out the Goldbar campground

  • Along Highway 313 – check out Horsethief campground

  • Along the La Sal Mountain Loop Road (South of Moab) – here you’ll find Ken’s Lake which is a popular camping spot where you can also do some fishing.

  • Along Sand Flats Road (East of Moab) – the Sand Flats Recreation Area has campground facilities and plenty of 4WD routes for you to enjoy.

  • In Canyonlands National Park – this expansive park has hundreds of miles of 4WD roads providing access to different campsites. While overnight trips and camping are allowed at designated sites at White Rim Road, The Needles and The Maze, you’ll need to obtain a permit beforehand.

Be Prepared For Camping When Planning Your Moab Camping Trip

Some of these campgrounds have better facilities than others so do your research prior to going there. It’s always best to carry along your own drinking water, portable toilets and a stove (gathering firewood or wood cutting is prohibited).
