4 Must Have Modifications To Boost Your 4X4 Performance

Owning a 4×4 is one thing and owning one that can easily go off-road on any kind of rugged terrain without breaking down is another. If you want your four-wheeler to easily handle off-roading situations without getting you bogged, stuck or towed then you need to have some modifications done.

We’ve done plenty of custom 4×4 upgrades and modifications at Dixie 4 Wheel Drive and these 4 are guaranteed to boost your performance:

Tougher tires

First things first, you need tires that are beefy enough to tackle off-roading terrains and long trips especially if you plan to take on any of the popular off-roading trails in Moab or tag along on one of our trail riding events

Getting a set of off-roading tires with an aggressive tread will give you better traction and will easily get you over any rocks or ruts you encounter. These tires are also designed to withstand a lot of abuse so you don’t have to worry about getting stranded in a remote area with a flat tire.

Before upgrading your tires, make sure you understand how they’ll affect your power, torque and even fuel consumption.

Upgraded suspension

Let’s be honest, stock suspensions are designed for those who never leave the tarmac. They may be fine for driving on the highway but won’t guarantee a smooth off-road ride. For that, you need a suspension with improved off-road capabilities.

Installing a suspension lift kit will give you better ground clearance so you can crawl over rocks or easily go over obstacles without snagging your undercarriage. The right lift kit will also give you a much smoother ride off-road ensuring you make it back home with minimal aches.

Lift kits can be challenging to install because you’ll also need to change other vehicle components so leave this to the 4X4 experts.

Better lights

Trail riding is a lot of fun. But as you can see when you download trail maps of southern Utah and the surrounding areas, some of the trails are in really remote areas. Once the sun sets, you’ll need plenty of light to see where you’re going and that’s where better lighting comes in.

You’ll need a good set of aftermarket lights to illuminate obstacles to help you see where you’re going. There are plenty of high-quality LED lights in different shapes and sizes for you to choose from with great features including vibration resistance and waterproof qualities.

Just ensure that they’re mounted correctly to give you the best vision.

A skid plate

There are a surprising number of low-hanging unprotected parts under your 4X4. To keep your oil pans, transfer cases, fuel tanks and transmission fluid pans from getting punctured or shredded by obstacles, you need the protection offered by a skid plate. It may not be as visible as the other modifications, but it’s just as important.

If you’d like to have any custom modifications or upgrades done on your 4X4, don’t hesitate to contact Dixie 4 Wheel Drive. Our 4WD experts will be happy to assist you.
